It was an accident of birth.
-
It’s a great feeling to have folks from away appreciate Portland.
-
The best moments are guests’ connections between something new to them and something familiar from their home.
-
The Great Lost Bear has 60 beers on tap and a great pub food menu. The Hot Mess is my go-to meal.
-
Personalization, consideration, six decades of local experience and observation, attempts at humor.
-
I might be at my desk, translating Caesar or Seneca, or I might be walking in the woods, just thinking about Seneca or Caesar.
-
Fall is the best season, in terms of weather. It also has Halloween and Thanksgiving, two superior holidays.
-
Smoked Dark Lager from Sacred Profane.
-
Sleep late, fresh brewed coffee (locally roasted, of course), greet the neighborhood dogs on their walks, read some of a John Connolly novel, take all afternoon prepping dinner.
-
Italian sandwich — veggie, no onion.
-
Grateful Dead. Down the coast, up the coast, across the country, at work, at home: it’s always the Dead.

Getting to share the beauty and history of my state with others.
-
I never tire of seeing Portland Head Light and getting to appreciate it from the water.
-
Ruskis on the west end is such a quintessential Portland spot, definitely a neighborhood bar you have to hit.
-
Passion and professionalism.
-
Telling sea stories in a dark bar.
-
Summer, when it’s nice to be out on the water.
-
Tequila soda
-
Going out to one of the Casco bay islands.

I grew up about 30 miles north of Portland and moved here in the late eighties.
-
I love showing people the things they won’t find from searching the internet. A great tour also brings strangers together.
-
I love the look of joy when someone tries an amazing beer or when we come around a corner to see a beautiful lighthouse.
-
I always recommend the walk along the Eastern Prom and a bowl of seafood chowder at Gilbert’s Chowderhouse.
-
There’s going to be laughter.
-
I actually do a lot of the things we show on tours. If not then I’m probably golfing or skiing.
-
We don’t really have spring but May is my favorite month to be here. It’s a beautiful lead in to summer.
-
I had a SOME Whoopie Pie Stout last night that made me very happy.
-
I love to explore walking and hiking trails with my wife – especially the ones near the coast.
-
You put a good NE IPA and a fried chicken sandwich in front of me and I’m not moving for awhile
-
The Mallett Brothers is a Maine Northern rock band that pairs nicely with a drive up the coast
